BA (Hons) Fine Art, Bretton Hall
I gained a degree in Fine Art Sculpture in 1997 and went on to train as an apprentice potter with Jonathan and Melanie Hughes-Jones, Pembridge Terracotta. I returned to producing art in the last 4 years, teaching myself new skills required to work with porcelain, to produce domestic ware. I work from a small home studio in North Herefordshire and particularly love working with and exploring the natural qualities of clay.
My porcelain domestic ware is high fired to 1260 degrees centigrade, fully vitrifying the clay, making the final piece strong and dishwasher safe. I choose to part glaze the pots to give a subtle visual design and textural quality, designing forms that are simple, but elegant and a pleasure to use.
I feel very lucky to have had sculptures and paintings included in two beautiful exhibitions curated by Charles MacCarthy, ‘The Company of Heaven’ 2013, and ‘The Light’ 2015, in Kingsland Church (for SMAAAK). My work has also been included in the last three group shows for h.Art week, again, in Kingsland Church.
I was also delighted to have a sculptural portrait ‘Nancy’ selected for the ‘Hereford Open’ at the Court Yard, Hereford, 2015. My pottery has been showcased in exhibitions in The Silk Top Hat Gallery, Ludlow and is displayed in galleries in Herefordshire and Shropshire.
