My ceramic practice is a combination of Raku, Earthenware and Stoneware which moves between figurative, functional and abstract. Some of my work has been informed by the structures, colours and forms of the rolling hills of Radnorshire. More recently, by the mountain ranges near Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, with its Cottonwood trees, big skies and rich, warm colours found in the surrounding area and in the culture of the native Pueblo people.
Walls have been used for millennia, even more so in today’s world, to separate and isolate cultures, religions, communities and even whole countries! My most recent work combines landscape and sky, linked to the divisions within global society, created by walls, both physical and metaphoric. The faces of some of the political instigators and perpetrators, of these divisive and often dehumanizing actions, are to be found printed on the walls for all to see!
